A place named Valsad in Gujarat is famous for it’s Matsya Mandir, i.e. temple where whale fish is worshipped. There’s an amazing story behind the formation of this temple.
300 years ago a fisherman named Prabhu Tandel of the village Magod Dungri dreamt of a whale fish came on the shore of sea and died there. He also got a hint in the dream that this whale fish was none other than a Goddess in the form of fish.
In the morning he told his fellow villagers about the dream. All of them went to the sea-shore to see the fish. To their amazement the fish was there and dead as seen in the dream.
Then villagers built a temple in the honour of Whale (goddess) and started worshipping there as a part of daily ritual.
